how to remove/delete windows services with “CMD” command prompt ?

Posted by

Basically it is useful when the uninstall program “process” of one specific product, service etc. fails, or if for X reason you delete/remove some specific installtion folders with services still running.

If you want to delete it from the Windows services, do the following steps:

1. You need to know the SERVICENAME not the DISPLAY or DESCRIPTIONNAME of the service.

2. Please open the command prompt

Windows + R and type “CMD”

3. Command:

C:\Users\daunknownsource> sc delete SERVICENAME

Scenario:

Let’s pretend the service name is: syslog_rc and the display name is: Syslog Reader C4, and recently we lost the folder with the entire information, (so, we do not have any services running) also, the service is not working properly, for that reason we need to remove the service to add it again.

Workaround.

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]

C:\Users\daunknownsource> sc delete syslog_rc
